Behavior:
We will be using individual cards this year. Each student has a pocket in the classroom with their number on it. In this pocket are 6 cards. Students have 6 cards each in both my class and Mrs. Sommer's class (so 12 cards total). If a student breaks a rule or is unprepared, they will pull a card and place it in the bucket on the teacher's desk. At the end of the month, students with 7 or more cards left get to have a reward (usually extra recess, but it could vary). Mrs. Sommer and I do the reward together, so one of us will take the students who earned the reward, and those who did not will be with the other teacher doing work. Once a student loses all their cards, anything they would have pulled a card for will be given a detention. Detention is served at recess. Our school policy is that students are assigned one day of ISP after four detentions in one month. During ISP, students spend all day in the ISP room at the middle school doing work. Teachers reserve the right to assign detentions and write office referrals as needed, without pulling cards.
Examples of behavior that may warrant pulling a card:
- being disrespectful, name-calling, not having all materials for class, playing around in the hallway or bathroom, not working, not following directions, etc.
Examples of behavior that may warrant detention:
- repeated behavior from the above list that does not improve after pulling a card, cheating, dishonesty, arguing with the teacher, purposely disrupting class, etc.
Examples of behavior that may warrant an office referral:
- defiance, refusal to work, physical violence, highly inappropriate remarks or words, bullying, etc.
