Homework:
This year your child will be using his/her home folder to keep track of assignments and important announcements. Please be sure to check the folder daily to make sure all work is completed. There will be labels on the left side (LEFT at home) and right side (RIGHT back to school). Please make sure you check both pockets for homework, graded work, notes, forms to be returned, etc.
Students will be bringing home a newsletter each Friday, as well. On the back of the newsletter will be a math facts page to practice multiplication. This will need to be returned to Mrs. Sommer the next Friday. There will be no assigned reading homework this year. Students are encouraged to read 20 minutes a night. We will be doing Accelerated Reader and a book challenge to see how many books they can read, so students will need to read outside of class to meet those goals. Reading at home is so, so important. We do not have a reading log because I know everyone has busy schedules and family time is important, but please keep in mind that the number one way research tells us that kids improve in their reading is to keep reading.
Anything else students bring home from my class would be if they did not finish their work in class. This does not happen very often, and if it does happen, you should know that your student was mostly likely not using their time wisely. They have plenty of time in class to complete their work every day. We do not have very much homework, so I expect it to be completed each week.
